Preparing for Your Visit
As a patient, expect to see one of our naturopathic doctors for an initial consultation of up to two hours, in which medical history, relevant test results, and current health status are all assessed and a treatment plan put in place. Your treatment plan will include nutritional guidelines, vitamin and herb supplementation, lifestyle changes and exercise, IV therapies where suitable, and referrals to other physical and emotional therapists at the CCNM Integrative Cancer Clinic. Your return visits are for 60 minutes and scheduled as needed.
Some of the benefits of naturopathic medicine in cancer care may include:
• Improves results from conventional treatments, maximizes health after treatment and reduces risk of cancer recurrence
• Reduces side effects of conventional cancer treatment like nausea, vomiting, pain, hot flashes, insomnia, anxiety, depression and reduced blood counts, among many others
• Maintains a healthy weight, achieved through diet, supplementation and lifestyle interventions
• Supports healing and recovery from cancer and conventional treatment
What to Expect
Please allow 2.5 hours for your initial visit. Approximately one hour will be spent with a fourth-year intern and another hour with your naturopathic doctor.
Your First Visit
• Review your medical history.

• Review your current health condition, including assessing any relevant pathology, imaging and lab reports, a physical exam, and discussing any symptoms or current physical, mental, or emotional challenges

• Assess your body composition using the InBody770 Body Composition Analyzer. The InBody770 test provides a comprehensive view of body composition (fat and muscle) and body water. Patients with cancer often experience significant changes in body composition, namely muscle loss, fat gain, or a combination of these factors. When these coincide, weight may not change significantly, making weight and BMI a poor indicator of physiological change. By monitoring objective muscle and fat mass measures with the InBody 770, we can assess physiological changes and symptoms associated with malnutrition, inflammation and cancer cachexia.
• Order any necessary lab workase be patient!
• An individualized treatment plan is created for you, which supports standard treatment protocols from the hospital and incorporates naturopathic and holistic therapies such as nutritional supplements, dietary plans, herbal therapies, intravenous therapies, and more.
Follow-up Visit
Follow-up visits, usually one hour long, continue to guide and empower you to make informed decisions and play an active role in your health care. Depending on your individual treatment and care needs, your care team will outline the frequency of follow-up visits
